Catching Up – Vhairi.

It’s been two-and-a-half years since I last posted anything. The reason? Life has been pretty good. I moved to the West Coast and I have not been as happy in years. So I didn’t really have anything to blog about.

And then…

Something happened to change all that.

I’m still happy. Still glad to be living where I am. Still love having friends and family close.

But I got a Breast Cancer diagnosis in June. I had a partial mastectomy at the beginning of August and am now awaiting an appointment with an oncologist to determine what my treatment will be. Radiation and hormone therapy for sure. Chemo? Perhaps.

Ironically, the only women in my personal experience who have had breast cancer are those whose husbands left them, either through death or divorce. Is there a connection? Does it really matter? Once you get the diagnosis, you have to deal with the reality. And following divorce (or being widowed) you need to deal with it without a life partner.

Which brings up all kinds of questions. Who do you confide in? Who can you cry with? How do you deal with some of the practicalities of the whole experience?

I don’t want this blog to become one about breast cancer, but I would like to look at some of the issues around being faced with any health challenge in this post-divorce life.

I hope you will follow along with me to read about the life lessons I’m learning along the way. If you have any suggestions to make the journey easier for women on their own, I would love to hear them.

Onwards and upwards.

How are you and where did the blog go? I particularly loved the story about you and your friend singing with Dougie MacLean and his group, which ended up on an album, you know… Well, where are you now?

    Love your group. xoxo

Hi Sherry. – Thank you for your very kind message. The blog is still here… we just haven’t written anything because over the past few years life has settled down and we’re both… happy! However, we were talking today and would like to get back to writing some posts… so watch this space. Best wishes. Vhairi
